This week we have set up an experiment to assess whether the green algae Caulerpa prolifera severely compete with the marine phanerogam Cymodocea nodosa. It was an easy set –up: just removing all (100%) or a ca. half (50%) of Caulerpa within 1.5 x 1.5 plots that contain a mixed meadow of C. prolifera and C. nodosa. We expect to follow-up the experiment in the upcoming months. This action is included within a framework of research initiatives towards improving our understanding on the effect of several stressors over C. nodosa.
